  • Why use components?  Because they save time:
Components have already been thoroughly tested reducing the amount of testing necessary for the components functionality. Note that the integration of the component in a project still has to be tested.
They can be reused many times in the same project, solution and of course in other solutions. Integration code can be copied and pasted easily.
They offer an extensive design-time support which can be used in a rapid application development (RAD) environment such as Visual Studio .NET.
They have the same handling as existing, well-known components (like for example a Textbox):  events, methods, properties as well as metadata.
They can be integrated quickly and with minimal tailoring, thus saving time (ideally drag, drop and use).
They should be highly customizable for special purposes and advanced use.
